Consider the value of the human mind. How much is your mind worth to you? Without it, you have nothing. As the ad goes, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
The battle going on for our minds is incessant. God created us, and He desires and deserves to be given full rights to our minds. But the enemy of our souls is relentless in his pursuit of our minds. Each and every mind that is given to Satan is a slap in God’s face, and a stab in His heart, which, tragically, is Satan’s highest delight.
Satan delights in placing minds under bondage, through evil habits and addictions of every sort. He drills his principles into our minds through the secular media, and through false religion. Addictions are the result of memorizing Satan’s lies. Somehow he traps us into believing his lies so strongly that we act them out again and again.
God has given us the ability to reason, and to choose. Even the demoniac, fully possessed by demons, still had the power of choice available to him. We can choose God, no matter how far we’ve fallen.
How do we take our minds from Satan’s bondage and give them to God? God’s miracle-working power is what we need. What does He need from us? Just a simple choice. Just like the lame man by the pool of Bethesda, who wanted to be healed. All he needed to do was believe in God’s ability, and make the effort to stand up. God worked the miracle, and gave the power, but the man needed to exercise his faith.
If we will reach out our hand, saying, "Lord, I believe. What would you have me to do?" He will take our hands, and lead us to His Word, saying, "Receive My Word into your heart." As we say, "Yes, Lord," and choose to cooperate with Him, He takes over, and leads us on step by step. And He does this through His Word.
Wordkeeping is the Highest Education we can receive. Wordkeeping is what we’re here for, because it is what enables us to learn to think like God does. Then Satan can have no more power over us.
If you were put in solitary confinement, without anything to read or see, what would you think about? What’s in your mind? If you have eaten God’s Word, it becomes a part of you. Your thought processes are redirected to think like God. What a rich treasure your mind contains!
The Word of God reveals discrepancies in our thoughts,
attitudes, and behavior, so that we can recognize our need for change, assent
to God’s truth, and submit to His transforming power. Then our thoughts will be
brought into harmony with His thoughts, the Word will become a permanent operating
principle in our lives
Through God’s help, we need to retrain, and educate our minds to
think correctly. Thoughts are amazing; they dart here and there, going to
whatever attracts our attention. While we can choose what we think about,
keeping our thoughts on a worthwhile topic can be a tremendous challenge. You
can be sure that Satan will be doing all he can to divert your attention away
from the Word. He makes worldly pleasures and entertainment incredibly
appealing.
Here’s a challenge for you. If you happen to watch a movie or
secular TV again, take note of everything that is portrayed that is against the
noble, elevating principles of God’s Word. I think you will be shocked to
realize that Satan is insinuating his diabolic principles constantly. Lust,
pride, rebellion, dishonesty, greed, self-indulgence and all manner of evil are
woven throughout almost every movie, show or commercial. Do you really want
Satan to be in charge of your mind’s education?
If we have filled our minds with nonsense and foolishness, those
habitual thinking patterns will keep pulling our minds down into the low
levels. It will be almost impossible to keep it on lofty themes. But your
efforts will be richly rewarded, as you begin to enjoy the sweetness of
Wordkeeping. If you are willing to persevere, your mind will automatically turn
to the holy and pure topics instead of foolish or evil thoughts.
Bible memory is one of the very best ways in the whole world to
restore our minds to their God-given ability to think good thoughts. Exercising
the faculties of the mind in this way brings miraculous regeneration. Even the
murderous mind of a hardened criminal may be restored through Wordkeeping. No
penitentiary or rehabilitation program can fix a criminal mind, but the Word of
God can. Scripture that is hidden in our hearts does more for us than we can
imagine. It takes us out of Satan’s cruel hands and puts us in God’s loving
hands, forever!!
The power of the Word to restore our minds is the greatest
evidence of the power of the Gospel. When we think upright thoughts, we will
have right actions. And this is God’s divine plan for all of us.
Wordkeeping is so much more than a casual reading of the
scriptures. It is allowing the awe-inspiring Words of God to penetrate so
deeply that evil thoughts are expelled. It takes determination and
perseverance. It is a challenging task, like climbing a mountain. But the
exhilaration and heavenly view is well worth the effort!
If we diligently educate our minds with the truths of the Bible, it’s
principles will become imbedded in our hearts. After a time, we will discover
that our tastes have changed! We no longer enjoy worldly entertainment.
Instead, we take delight in pursuing that which is uplifting and ennobling.
Wordkeeping actually creates a desire for more Wordkeeping, until all of
Satan’s worldly educational sources are avoided like the plague! Wordkeeping
becomes an antidote for the Satan’s mental poison.
Do you want you mind to grow stronger and think more clearly? Far
more than any other pursuit, Wordkeeping will increase your powers of
comprehension, and sharpen your thinking abilities. There is no other source of
knowledge in the world that can top the Word of God. No other book exists that
can rival it. Read it thoughtfully and prayerfully, slowly, patiently,
reverently. Your mind will become invigorated as it contemplates the deep
truths of God’s Word. You are tapping in to the very wisdom of heaven. As you
pursue it more and more, you will be absolutely amazed!
Praise God for His Word!
